Kamma and Samsara Flashcards
What is Kamma?
Kamma is the law of cause and effect. Our intentions and actions will have consequences in the future. This means it could affect happiness or suffering now but will also affect future rebirths. Kamma is energy passed on from one lifetime to another. Through skilful (kusala) or unskillful (Akusula) actions whether the rebirth is good or bad will be decided.
What is Samsara?
Samsara is the name Buddhists give to the continuous cycle of birth, death and rebirth. Buddhists believe we are all stuck in this cycle and we need to break free to end our suffering. At the centre of this wheel are the Three Root Poisons. The Tibetan wheel of life illustrates Samsara and the six realms that Buddhists can be born in. Enlightened beings break free from the cycle.
