Kaiser ruled over all the states of Germany as the supreme commander.
He was supported by the Reichstag
Made all decisions related to the army, navy, and other foreign

They discussed laws but the Kaiser doesn’t have to consider them
WHAT DID THE KAISER BELIEVE IN?
MILITARISM- a country should have strong armed forces was important
HOW WAS THE GROWTH OF SOCIALISM A PROBLEM FOR THE KAISER?
Workers were unhappy with wages, working conditions and food prices
They joined trade union and organised strikes to force the Kaiser to improve conditions
Some members of the SPD have an extremist view and wanted to rebel against the Kaiser, take over and be governed by councils of workers.
WHAT DID THE SPD WANT?
For the Kaiser to share his power
For the Reichstag to make more social reforms and laws to improve workers rights and conditions.
HOW WAS WELTPOLIK& THE NAVY?
Huge amounts of money was spent on the navy which meant taxes were raised and money was borrowed. Germany was in debt for a long time
WHAT WAS WELTPOLITIK?
The Kaiser wanted a large empire and transform into a global power control over countries.
Took over nations –> mostly Africa
WHY DID THE KAISER INCREASE HIS NAVY?
He wanted a large navy to help him take over more countries and protect their empire.
He was very militaristic and wanted German navy to rival the British
WHAT DID THE BRITISH NAVY DO AGAINST THE GERMAN IN WW1?
Used the large navy to stop supply ships getting to Germany which meant there were terrible shortages of food, medicines & clothes
WHAT HAPPENED TO GERMANY IN 1918
Germans were short of food, surviving on turnips and bread and a deadly flu epidemic swept the nation.
