KA5 Flashcards
What a genome
A genome is a organism entire hereditary information encoded in DNA
What is a genome made up of
Genes, which are DNA sequences that code for proteins and other DNA sequences that don’t code for proteins
What is Genome sequencing
It’s the process by which the sequence of nucleotide bases is determined for individual genes or entire genomes
What is bioinformatics
The use of computer programmes to identify base sequence by looking for similar frequencies similar to known genes
The use of bioinformatics involves
Computers and statistical analysis to compare sequence data
What can individuals genomes guess
The likelihood of certain disease developing
Genetic differences in a persons genome influence what
How they react to specific drugs
What is pharamacognetics
The study and use of genome information in the choice of drugs
How are personal drugs achieved
By a individuals personal genome sequence to select the most effective drugs and dosage to treat their disease
