KA2 Flashcards
What is a hormones
A chemical messenger that is produced on one site and has a effect on another site
What are hormones produced by, and what are they secretes directly into
Produced by endocrine glands and secreted into blood stream
What does a hormone do when it reaches a target tissue
Brings about a specific effect
Hormones produced in the pituitary gland and hypothalamus control what
Onset of puberty
Sperm production
Menstrual cycle
What does the hypothalamus produces at puberty
Released hormone whose target is the pituitary gland
The pituitary gland is then stimulated to produce
FSH & ICSI for males
And
LH & ICSI for females
What does FSH DO
•FSH AND ICSH produced from the pituitary gland, travel in the bloodstream to the testes.
•FSH promotors sperm production in the seminiferous tubules
What does ICSH do males
Stimulates interstitial cells to produce the hormone testosterone
Roles of testosterone
· stimulates sperm production in the seminiferous tubals
•activates prostrate gland and seminal vesicles to produce their secretions
Feedback pt1
What happens as the concentration of testosterone builds up in the blood stream
It inhibits the secretion of FSH AND ICSH from the pituitary gland
P2 negative feed back
What does the secretion lead to?
Decrease in testosterone concentrations
P3 negative feed back
When the testosterone con decreases then what
This then triggers the pituitary gland to again produce FSH and ICSH and so on
P3 negative feed back
When the testosterone con decreases then what
This then triggers the pituitary gland to again produce FSH and ICSH and so on
The menstrual cycle
Takes how many days
28 days
What is the first day of menstrual cycle regarded us? (Blood flow)
Day one of the cycle
