Age Requirements

A

Minimum age = 12, at the time of the offense (WIC 602(a)). No minimum age if the offense is murder, rape/sodomy/oral copulation/sexual penetration by force, violence, duress, menace, or fear of bodily injury (WIC 602(b)), Max age is 17 at the time of the offense

Expiration of Juvenile Court Jurisdiction

A

Expires at age 21 (WIC 607(a)). If there is a 707(b) offense charged and minor is committed to DJF, court may retain jurisdiction up to age 23 or 2 years, whichever is longer. If the maximum sentence is over 7 years, court may retain jurisdiction until 25 or 2 years, whichever is longer (WIC 607(g)(2))

A

If petition is true, then disposition may be transferred to the county or state where the minor resides. BUT contact PD in home jurisdiction before transferring.
