Prosecuter
The party who brings a suit or some other legal action against another in court
Plaintiff
A formal complain before a grand jury which charges the accused of 1 or more crimes.
Indictment
A lawyer employed at public Expense in a criminal trial to represent a defendant who is unable to afford legal assistance.
Public Defender
A court’s list of cases to be heard.
Docket
Principle that one is considered innocent until proven guilty.
Presumption of Innocence
Formal reading of a criminal charged document in the presence of a defendant to inform defendant of the charges against him.
Arraignment
The legal process by which a fugitive from justice in one state is returned to that state.
Extradition
Jury that cannot agree upon a verdict after extended deliberation and is unable to reach required majority.
Hung Jury
An order from a court to an inferior government official ordering the governments official to properly fill their official duties or correct an abuse of discretion
Writ of Mandamus
The release of an offender from detention for a period of time due to good behavior under supervision.
Probation
When someone is being kept as a prisoner in their own house, rather than in a prison.
House Arrest
A center for helping former drug addicts, prisoners, psychiatric patients, or others to adjust to life in general society.
Half-way House
The means with which a court of law, usually in the exercise of civil law jurisdiction, enforces a right, imposes a penalty, or makes another court order to impose its will.
