What are the Commandments?
A set of rules that God gave Moses.
How long after leaving Egypt did the Israelites arrive in the Sinai Desert?

What happened at the Sinai desert?
After setting up camp, the Israelites heard loud noises, the sound of horns and saw smoke from on top of Mount Sinai.
What did Moses do when he heard the noise and saw the smoke from on top of Mount Sinai?
He climbed up and God spoke to him, giving him the Torah and the 10 commandments.
Covenant?
God made a Covenant (promise) to protect His people if they obeyed him. They would also be punished if the disobeyed.
Why did God give the Israelites a set of laws
God gave a set of Laws to live by because:
God wanted them to live in a way that was different from the “sinful” behaviour of other neighbouring cultures.
God wanted the Israelites to live in a way that showed they were trusting Him and looking after each other.
There are 613 commandments in the Old Testament Law (Jewish Torah) covering all sorts of issues related to religious practice, social justice and lifestyle.

How many Laws do Jews follow>
- Orthodox Jews will still try to follow many of these laws.
How many Laws do Christians follow?
Many Christians will try to follow the 10 Commandments but will not try to follow the rest of the Jewish Law.
What are the 10 Commandments?
- You shall have no other God’s before me.
- You shall not make unto thee any false images.
- You shall not take God’s name in vain.
- Remember the Sabbath day and keep it Holy.
- Honor your father and mother.
- You shall not kill.
- You shall not commit adultery.
- You shall not steal.
- You shall not lie
10.You shall not covert - Love your neighbour as yourself
