Journal 7 Flashcards
baseline data
information regarding a target audience or situation prior to an intervention. generally, these are collected to provide a point of comparison for an evaluation
cost effective-ness
the degree to which something is effective or productive in relation to its cost
direct costs
the part of a budget that contributes directly to a program’s outputs. they are made up of personnel costs (salary and benefits) as well as “out-of-pocket” costs associated with products and services not obtained through a salaried employee
expandability
the ability of a product to accommodate additions to its capacity or capabilities
indirect costs
expenses that it costs an agency to exist, but that are not tied directly to creating the program’s out-puts. examples usually include office space, environmental management (heat, air conditioning, water, custodial services, etc.), and depreciation on equipment. these are usually calculated as a percentage of direct costs. also called “overhead”
in-kind contributions
in the nonprofit world in which public health often operates, this is organizations’ time, space, use of equipment, and other in-house resources. these will be used to produce program outputs, but are not factored into the direct or indirect costs of the budget. some donors Wille expect to see a match made of their investment
pilot testing
a trial of a marketing package or health communication intervention in its entirety in a limited location. results are used to fix problems before a large scale launch, or to make a “no go” decision
presentability
a product’s suitability and social acceptability in appearance
press advisory
an alert or invitation to the media, usually to attend an event, press conference, or kick-off a program. provides the key information-the who, what, when, where, and why
press release
an official written or recorded statement issued to newspapers and other media outlets to announce a program, event, or something newsworthy. it is usually provided in a news format that media could use, such as a news story with quotes, photos, and so forth
soft launch
the release of a new product or service to a restricted audience or market in advance of a full launch
sustainability
meeting the needs of the present generation without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs
utilitarianism
this theory posits that decisions should be judged by their consequences. net utility should be maximized for all parties involved in a decision
