engagement
encouraging interest or interaction
normative beliefs
perceptions about what others are doing or thinking about a health behavior or issue. part of the integrative model (IM), along with behavioral beliefs and control beliefs
control beliefs
an individual’s belief that they have some control over their life and especially their health issues; a positive factor in improving health behavior
self-efficacy
one’s belief in one’s ability to succeed in specific situations or to accomplish a task. one’s sense of self-efficacy can play a major role in how one approaches goals, tasks, and challenges
social marketing
“the design, implementation and control of programs aimed at increasing the acceptability of a social idea”
vicarious/observational learning
the learning of various attitudes, feelings, beliefs, and emotions, not through direct exposure to a stimulus but through observing how others react to it
barriers
hindrances to desired change. these may be factors external or internal to audience members themselves
behavioral beliefs
the subjective probability that an object has a certain attribute, for example, a person may believe that physical exercise (the object) reduces the risk of heart disease (the attribute)
