eye tracking
using a head-mounted camera and computer screens designed for this purpose, it is possible to detect and measure eye movements and gaze fixation as we look at an image or text. our innate response to imminent danger or arousal causes our pupils to dilate and our blink rate to change. all can be measured photographically and can be used to measure reading ease as well as a subject’s interest in an image, a video, or text
creative brief
a document that includes information that will be needed by a creative team in order to develop concepts and messages. it contains information about the primary target audience as well as settings, channels, and activities for reaching them. promising message variables and thoughts on what materials will be needed are included. secondary audiences are also profiled.
pre-test
a type of formative research that involves systematically gathering target audience reactions to messages and materials before they are produced in final form
setting
a location or environment where the target audience can be reached with a communication effort
usability testing
according to the American marketing association, a research step in the design and launch of a website where users evaluate the ease of use of the site’s navigation, layout, and other attributes
user testing
when consumers examine both the messages and the material. often in health communication, one would ask members of the target audience to assess messages or ideas that will be used, as well as mock-up of materials, videos, or other communication to get input on accessibility and acceptability
stakeholder
those who are involved in or affected by a course of action
continuation plan
a strategy to ensure a broader reach, diffuse expenses, and provide continuity of leadership and ownership
implementation/tactical plan
short-term action plan that breaks down bigger-picture goals and strategies into narrower, actionable tasks
