Joints Of Upper Limb Flashcards
Sternoclavicular joint.
Competency - describe sternoclavicular joint -
Synovial joint - saddle joint
Compund joint as manubrium sterni, clavicle and first costal cartilage.
Complex as divided into superomedial and inferolateral compartment.
Two ligaments are interclavicular ligament and costoclavicular ligament.
Blood supply - internal thoracic artery
Nerve supply - Medial supraclavicular nerve.
Movements - protraction,retraction, elevation,depression , anterior and posterior rotation.
Acromioclavicular joint.
Plane synovial joint.
Formed by clavicle and acromion process of scapula.
Blood supply - suprascapular and Thoracoacromial artery
Nerve - lateral supraclavicular nerve
Ligament - coracoclavicular ligament. Coracoacromial ligament, suprascapular ligament , spinoglenoid ligament.
Elbow joint
Hinge variety of synovial joint between humerus , radius and ulna.
Comprises humeroradial , humeroulnar and radioulnar joint.
Articular surface - Capitulum and trochlea of humerus.
Head of radius articulate with Capitulum and trochlear notch of ulna articulate with the trochlea of humerus.
Ligament - Capsular ligament
Radial collateral ligament
Ulnar collateral ligament
Blood supply - anastomoses around elbow joint.
Nerve supply - branches from radial, ulnar , median and musculocutaneous nerve
Carrying angle - transverse axis of elbow joint is directed medially and downwards making an angle of 13⁰ .
