Joints Flashcards
what are the two parts of the skeleton
axial skeleton, appendicular skeleton
what is medial and what is lateral
medial is closer to the middle, and lateral is away from the middle
what are the three joint types and their range of movement
fibrous fixed, cartilaginous limited movement, synovial free
what types of synovial joints are there
pivotal, hinge, saddle, ball and socket, gliding, ellipsoid
what are all the movements joints can do
flexion, extension, abduction, adduction, pronation, supination, elevation, depression, retraction, protraction, plantar flexion, dorsiflexion, inversion, eversion
describe the movement for each of the joint movements: flexion, extension, abduction, adduction, pronation, supination, elevation, depression
flexion decreasing the angle between two bones, extension increasing the angles between two bones, abduction moving a body part away from the midline of the body, adduction moving the a body part towards the midline of the body, pronation twisting inwards, supination twisting outwards, elevation raising a body pard, depression, lowering a body part
describe the movement for each of the joint movements: retraction, protraction, plantar flexion, dorsiflexion, inversion, eversion
retraction pulling a body part backwards, protraction pushing a body part forwards, plantar flexion bending the foot away from the shin, dorsiflexion bending the foot toward the shin, inversion rotating the foot inward, eversion rotating the foot outward
