Joints Flashcards
What is a joint?
A place where adjacent bones, bone and cartilage come together to form a connection
What anchors adjacent bones to each other?
Fibrous connective tissue or cartilage
What do other adjacent bones articulate in?
A fluid-filled space called a joint cavity
What is the joint articulation?
(immobile joint)
Synarthrosis
What is the joint articulation?
(slightly moveable joint)
Amphiarthrosis
What is the joint articulation?
(freely moveable joint)
Diarthrosis
What are 2 factors of Synarthrosis?
- They have a strong connection between articulating bones.
- They protect internal organs.
What are 2 factors of Amphiarthrosis?
- They do not move much.
- They provide strength for weight bearing and mobility.
What are 2 factors of Diarthrosis?
- Include all synovial joints in the body.
- Divided into 3 categories based on a number of axes motion provided.
What are the 3 categories for Diathrosis
Uniaxial.
Biaxial.
Multiaxial.
What are the 6 types of synovial joints?
Pivot joint.
Hinge Joint
Saddle joint
Plane joint
Condyloid joint
Ball and socket joint
