Joint Injections and Nerve Blocks Flashcards
Where is the coffin joint injection given?
Above the hoof wall, lateral or medial to the sagittal line, needle perpendicular to the ground
Where is the navicular bursa joint injection given?
Midway between the heel-bulbs, proximal to the coronary band
Where is the pastern joint injection given?
distal to the eminence on distolateral PI underneath the common digital extensor tendon, parallel to the ground
Where is the fetlock joint injection given?
Distal to the lateral splint bone, proximal to the proximal sesamoid collateral ligament, palmar/plantar to the cannon bone, dorsal to the lateral branch of the suspensory
What are the two carpal joint injections?
Radiocarpal and mid-carpal
Where is the radiocarpal joint injection given?
Distal to the medial radius, proximal to the radial carpal bone, medial to the extensor carpi radialis
Where is the mid-carpal joint injection given?
Distal to the radial carpal bone, medial to the proximal edge of the 3rd carpal bone, medial to the extensor carpi radialis
Where is the tibiotarsal joint injection given?
Distal to the medial malleolus of the tibia
Medial or lateral to the saphenous vein
Where is the distal intertarsal joint injection given?
Distal to the cunean tendon
In the proximal T created by the junction of the central tarsal, 3rd tarsal, and fused 1+2 tarsal
Where is the tarsometatarsal joint injection given?
Proximal to the head of the lateral splint bone
Lateral to the lateral edge of the SDFT
Needle directed slightly distal and dorsomedial
Where is the femoropatellar joint injection given?
Proximal to the tibial crest
Between the medial and middle patellar ligament
Parallel to ground
Where is the medial femorotibial joint injection given?
Proximal to the medial tibia
Between the medial patellar ligament and medial collateral ligament
Where is the lateral femorotibial joint injection given?
Proximal to the lateral tibia
Caudal to the lateral patellar ligament
Types of local anesthetic used
Lidocaine
Mepivacaine (Carbocaine)
What are the forelimb blocks?
Palmar/plantar Digital
Abaxial Sesamoid
Low Four-point
High Four-point
High Palmar
Proximal nerves
