Joining Processes Flashcards

1
Q

What are mechanical joints and what are they’re advantages?

A

Fasteners are used to exploit elastic or frictional properties and hold two components together.

Easy to use
allow dismantling
Allow different materials to be joined together

Q

What is arc welding

A

Heat is supplied to an extra element called a filler which expands and contracts to fill and seal the gap between two components

Q

What is shielded metal arc welding

A

An electric arc melts a hux covered metal electrode and the base metal. This covering melts to form a slag which covers the weld and protects from oxidation
