What is casting
Where a solid is melted and poured into a mould or cavity that contains its proper shape during solidification
What are advantages of casting
Simple and complex shaped can be made
Cast parts can vary in size
What is green sand moulding
A mould of compact moist sand is packed around a wood or metal pattern. Green indicated the moisture
What is dry sand casting
Sand is used to create the mould. Cast is poured around the sand mould and sets
What is precision moulding
Produces castings with improved surface finish and a higher degree of dimensional accuracy
What is investment casting
A mould of wax is injection moulded and a coating is applied. The wax is then melted away and the shell is filled by gravity pouring. The ceramic shell is then removed by vibration leaving the finished cast
