What is your IMPS?

A

Gap year Enlistment has no Initial minimum period of service, however the gap year lasts 12 months and I may request for discharge at any time by providing 21 days notice. Most full time roles have 4-6 year IMPS however.

Gap Year Recruits begin their training in Kapooka, Wagga Wagga NSW. this recruit course lasts 12 weeks and includes:

-Weapon handling and shooting
-First aid
-Army drill
-Field craft.

Initial Employment Training lasts 7-12 weeks depending on the combat role you’re assigned.

What can you expect to be your day to day role once posted to your unit?

A

Average day consists of

Early wake, PT and personal preparation for the day

Morning briefing; usually from commanding officer on the days plans and objectives

Equipment check; checking vehicles, PPE, communication devices, explosives, engineering tools

Field operation; may be constructruction; bridges, roads or barriers, anything to aid mobility or counter mobility.
Demolitions ; clearing obstacles, clearing mines or IEDs
Route clearance; scanning for IEDs

A

Course content at school of engineering, Holsworthy, NSW:

-Use of construction tools.
-Prepare for and conduct basic engineering
-Operate in Chemical, Biological, Radiation and Nuclear threat
-Conduct water purification
