What are the key responsibilities of this role?
A
- work with external Public Affairs agency to deliver ‘Pitching in’ MP visits, programmes and other related parliamentary and community events.
- Assist the public affairs manager in organising responses to consultations from Government and the regulator
- Promoting player protection measures, including highlighting the impact of the black market.
- Coordinating responses to trade body requests for data for economic contribution and impact reports.
- Working with the team and Public Affairs Agency on a shop visit programme for new MP’s
- writing regular internal updates on public affairs developments, ensuring stakeholders are kept up to speed
- supporting the public affairs manager on special European projects including sharing best practice research into problem gambling and updating the company’s safer gambling narrative on a country-by country basis

A
- Public Affairs refers to the engagement between businesses or organisations and the public (namely government bodies).
- strategic communication is at the heart of public affairs. Public affairs helps ensure businesses have an avenue to build relationships and communicate their point of view to relevant stakeholders, especially when it comes to the development of new policies and regulations.
- includes an evaluation of attitudes and opinions regarding the functioning of an organisation and its activities - policies and procedures are required to be compatible with the social responsibility of the corporation in question

what safer gambling practices were you aware of in your previous role?
A
- I was more involved with the real-time player protection measures
- while I was aware of the safer gambling controls via our ‘Play Well’ strategy over the last few years, including setting mandatory deposit limits for customers under 25, reducing online slots staking limits and making material investments in our safer gambling operational capabilities
- part of my job was to look out for large amounts of money placed on potential long shots, or simply just large amounts of money places by accounts where the size of the stake does not reflect their usual betting history
- refer them to the risk team who then call them to check on their activities if needs be, and can also code down their accounts if they do not have the financial backing to prove their ability to stake like that
