Jessica Flashcards
Private pilot privileges and limitations
A private pilot may not pay less than the pro rata share of the operating expenses of a flight with passengers
No Complex airplane with 200 hp - no retractable landing gear.
What does Gas Gauge have to show?
Empty needs to show 0
Special Flight permit
- The SFP will be issued by the FSDO geographically responsible for the area in which the flight is to originate. - usually with 10 hours of limitation
- Flying the aircraft to a base where repairs, alterations, or maintenance are to be performed, or to a point of storage.
What is specified preventive maintenance
According to 14 CFR Part 43, Maintenance, Preventive Maintenance, Rebuilding, and Alteration, the holder of a pilot certificate issued under 14 CFR Part 61 may perform specified preventive maintenance on any aircraft owned or operated by that pilot
Replenish hydraulic fluid in the hydraulic reservoir
Replace safety belts. • Replace bulbs, reflectors, and lenses of position and landing lights. • Replace or clean spark plugs and set spark plug gap clearance
What is a minimum equipment list (MEL)?
A minimum equipment list (MEL) is a list which provides for the operation of aircraft, subject to specified conditions, with particular equipment inoperative (which is) prepared by an operator in conformity with, or more restrictive than, the MMEL established for the aircraft type.
Not applicable for DA-40
Where is Carbon Monoxide coming from and what to do?
Cracked muffler, or exhaust - Close cabin heater, open window
What are the primary control system and the secondary control system?
The ailerons, elevator (or stabilator), and rudder constitute the primary control system and are required to control an aircraft safely during flight. Wing flaps, leading edge devices, spoilers, and trim systems constitute the secondary control system and improve the performance characteristics of the airplane or relieve the pilot of excessive control forces.
AIRMET vs SIGMET(sever-extreme), how many types and how often are they issued?
^ Yes, weather advisories mainly for smaller aircraft. There are 3 types: Zulu, tango and sierra issued every 6 hours.
US SIGMETs
Severe Icing
Severe or Extreme Turbulence
Dust storms and/or sand storms lowering visibilities to less than three (3) miles
Volcanic Ash
US Convective SIGMETs
-tornado
-hail greater than or equal to 3/4 inches in diameter
-wind gusts greater than or equal to 50 knots
Line of thunderstorms at least 60 miles long with thunderstorms affecting 40% of its length.
Area of thunderstorms covering at least 40% of the area concerned and exhibiting a very strong radar reflectivity or a significant satellite or lightning signature.
Embedded or severe thunderstorms expected to occur for more than 30 minutes.
Special issuance criteria include:
The criteria for a non-convective SIGMET
to be issued are severe or greater turbulence over a 3,000-square-mile (7,800 km2) area, severe or greater icing over a 3,000-square-mile (7,800 km2) area or IMC over a 3,000-square-mile (7,800 km2) area due to dust, sand, or volcanic ash.
AIRMET Zulu
- mod icing or greater
AIRMET Tango
mod turbulence
Sustained surface winds of greater than 30 knots at the surface
AIRMET Sierra - at what ceiling and visibility are they issued
Ceilings less than 1000 feet and/or visibility less than 3 miles affecting over 50% of the area at one time.
Extensive mountain obscuration
Convective SIGMETS
^ Thunderstorms, Tornadoes, 50kt winds at surface, hail greater than 3/4 inch diameter.
