What is Marbury vs Madison

A

Marbury= new judge that ADAMS hired on his last day of office. Jefferson told Madison to NOT deliver the paperwork which then led Marbury to lose his job. Marbury sued Madison and it led to the Supreme Court to deal with federal issues also would do judicial review and lower courts would deal with jobs.

Louisiana Purchase

A

1 million people(mostly farmers) were living between the appt mountains and the mississippi river. Produce went through new orleans which would get market. Spain controlled the port in new orleans and washing made a treaty to make it so we could go through the port. French owned Hati which was making a lot of money off of sugar cane with slaves. The French’s plan was to buy the land and make food to bring down to the slaves to feed them but the slaves revolted and freed themselves in 1804 so they didn’t need the land anymore so they sold it to us with more land for 15 million because they needed money for the way against England.

Q

War with Tripoli

A

There were pirates in the Mediterranean Sea and northern Africa, which asked us for money and if the u.s gave them the money they wouldn’t steal our ships, so Jefferson gave them the money. One of the states wanted more money but Jefferson said no so the state declared war on us. Jefferson built up the navy and marines but then a US battleship was taken named the Philadelphia, which is bad because it had cannons and other armory on it. The US went in and burned it so the pirates couldn’t have it. Jefferson then made the Marines walk 500 miles on the state so we could attack them from land while the navy attacked from the sea. The result: a treaty signed to leave us alone.
