Jaw Registration Flashcards
What is Centric Occlusion (CO)
The occlusion of opposing teeth when the mandible is in centric relation; it is the natural contact position that may or may not coincide with maximum intercuspation.
What is Centric Relation (CR)
A maxillomandibular relationship where the condyles are in the most anterior-superior position in the glenoid fossa, independent of tooth contact; it is repeatable and stable.
What is Maximum Intercuspation (MI)?
The position where there is maximum contact between the teeth of the upper and lower arches, regardless of condyle position.
Why is Centric Relation (CR) important in prosthodontics?
It provides a stable, repeatable reference position that minimizes stress on the supporting structures and is used to guide occlusal design.
How does Centric Occlusion (CO) differ from Maximum Intercuspation (MI)?
CO occurs when the mandible is in centric relation, while MI is the maximum contact position of teeth regardless of the condyle position.
