Q

what 4 labs would be helpful in liver disorders

A
  • bilirubin (blood or urine) - testing to see if there is too little or too much bilirubin in the blood or urine
  • gamma glutamyl transferase (GGT) - enzyme that acts as a transport molecule for drugs and other toxins
  • alanine aminotransferase (ALT) - where jaundice is coming from; higher when there is long term damage
  • aspertate aminotransferase (AST) - levels increase between 6-10 hours after someone uses excess drugs/alcohol. levels remain high for ~ 4 days; checks for short-term damage
