A
- It’s easy to grow crops in the fertile, flat and gently sloping land.
- It is easy to use farm machinery on flat land.
- The warm temperate climate allows a variety of crops to be grown.
- Good roads and railways make it possible to live in the countryside and work in the city.

Why is Japan so densely populated in urban areas?
A
- Almost half of Japan’s population live in the areas around Tokyo, Nagoya and Osaka.
- Cities are built on top of flat land, which made it easier for them to be built and expanded.
- There are many ports and harbours along the coast, which has led to the input of raw materials, the export of manufactured goods, and development for a fishing industry.
