• Tea Cake’s character is embellished with his musical abilities- playing piano for janie, charming her and this serves as officialiczing their relationship, he also entices Janie with his guitar, singing in their shop and to his friends
• each of her husbands are characterized also by their abilities - logan’s hardworking nature, joe’s ability to raise eatonville “from the bottom” and tea cake’s musical abilities and charm
• janie never had a source of “release,” and it would have been likely repressed by jody/her grandmother since her husband should be doing “manly” things like that, but documenting those experiences through something she enjoyed might’ve helped her through those times and also serve as her story, finally told through her.
