GCS 9 and deteriorating
What are examples of indications for EZIO?
Unable to gain IV access after 2 attempts
Clinician feels attempting IV access futile
When someone is peripheral shut down, mainly peadiatrics
What are examples of contraindications of EZIO access?
Conscious and GCS 15
Unable to locate land marks
If Pt has had previous EZIO insertion within 48 hours, same site cannot be used again.
If Pt has fracture/open fracture above the access site
Sites for EZIO access?
Proximal humorous
Proximal tibia
In paediatrics, distal femur
Needle sizes of EZIO access
15mm - YAS don’t carry
25mm - For paediatrics and females
45mm - For adult males

Higher gauge = smaller needle

Why do certain drugs require certain cannula sizes
The drugs have different sizes, drugs such as glucose are a larger molecule size so require a larger cannula
