17
Q
  1. What is the term used to explain why it is hotter in urban areas than it is in rural areas?
A

Urban Heat Island Effect.

18
Q
  1. What are the four reasons why it is hotter in urban areas than in rural areas?
A
  • Dark surfaces (e.g Tarmac, concrete): absorbs solar radiation.
  • Pollutants: Hold onto the heat.
  • Lack of evaporation: Less plants and water in the Urban areas therefore less evaporation that removes the heat.
  • Large buildings: Stops/ reduces/ changes the flow of wind therefore heat is not dispersed.
