Social cognition
How people perceive their social worlds
Cognitive miser
Use shortcuts to cope with incoming info - limited cognitive resources available. Seek out quick adequate solutions to problems
Motivated tactician
Actively select from.a number of strategies based on the needs, goals and motives of the thinker at that time e.g type and degree of motivation
Naive scientist
Use various strategies to understand why we and others behave in particular ways in social situations e.g work out causes for particular events / make attributions in predictable ways

Positivism
Non-critical acceptance that science is the best and only way to arrive at a true understanding of what is going on in the social world
Schema
Mental structures that an individual uses to organise knowledge and guide cognitive processes and behaviour e.g self, event, person, role schematas
Social constructionism
People develop knowledge of the world in a social context. Any knowledge we have of the social world is created or constructed by language, culture or history
Discourse analysis
Detailed analysis of language ‘beyond the sentence’ how talk is used to manage interactions between people
Social facilitation
The tendency for the presence of others to improve a persons performance on a task. Psychological concept
Interpretative repertoires
Types of metaphors and images we use in everyday talk to construct an object e.g repertoires to describe students
Social psychology
Branch of social psychology that deals with social interactions including their origins and their effects on the individual
Volkerpsychologie
Method of psychology founded in 19th century by Willhelm Wundt known for experimental psychology work.
