One criticism of psychological theories and studies is that they are gender biased because the methods used are biased. For example, Rosenthal found that male experimenters are more kind and caring towards female participants that to male participants. As a result, men tended to perform less well on the task. Furthermore, it has been suggested that lab studies disadvantage women as the controlled setting is very different from their real world experience. These criticisms suggest issues with the way data is collected, which creates a false picture of the difference between men and women.
