Ship building
The empire contributed to the Clyde becoming the centre of ship building. shippers on the Clyde were world leaders of ship production up to 1914.

They developed the commercial life of Scotland, Jews settled in central Glasgow, and many of them set up small business.
Jacob Kramrisch recruited jewish immigrants from Poland and Germany so they could make tobacco.
Lithuanian immigrants
They contributed to the economic development of Scotland. Lithuanian made a contribution to the economy through coal mining industry.
Irish immigrants
Provided a workforce prepared to tackle the hardest jobs, they contributed to industrial development in Scotland through the building of roads, canals and railways across Scotland.
They has a lasting cultural impact on Scottish society, as they separated the Catholic school system across major urban centres in Scotland. Migration had an impact on Scottish sporting life.
Protestant Irish immigrants
Irish contributed to the culture of Scotland through the Protestant Orange Lodge Order.
