Isomerism Flashcards
1
Q
What is an isomer?
A
Multiple compounds which have the same molecular formula.
Types of Isomerism includes:
• Consuitutional Isomerism
• Stereoisomerism
2
Q
What is a constitutional isomer?
A
Isomers which have the same molecular formula but different connectivity.
i.e. their shape is different
3
Q
What is a stereoisomer?
A
Isomers which have the same molecular formula & the same connectivity but a different arrangement in space,
4
Q
What types of stereoisomers is there?
A
• Enantiomers
• Diastereomers
> E/Z or cis/trans diastereomers
> Chiral diastereomers
