Q

What is a conjugate acid?

A

A conjugate acid is the molecule formed when the base in the reaction accepts a proton (H+).
(As bases are proton acceptors)

Q

NH3(g) + H2O(l) → NH4+(aq) + OH−(aq)

What is the conjugate acid and what is the conjugate base?

A

Conjugate acid:
NH4+ - as the NH3 in the equation can be saw to GAIN a proton (H+) making NH4+ from NH3

Conjugate base:
OH- - as the H2O in the equation can be saw to DONATE a proton (H+) making OH- from H2O

Q

What is a conjugate base?

A

A conjugate base is the molecule formed when the acid in the reaction donates a proton (H+).
