Isolation (definition)
The intentional separation and restriction of ill persons with a confirmed contagious, trasmittable infection or disease
Personal protection equiptment (PPE)

Methods of transmission
Tier 1: standard precautions
ALL patients in ALL healthcare settings
Tier 2: expanded precautions
Patients who are or are suspected of being colonized with a contagious, transmissible pathogen
Contact precautions (reasons for precautions)
MDRO, VRE, RSV, Shingles, Rotavirus, Lice, Scabies, wounds with drainage
Special contact precautions (reasons)
Clostridium difficile or Diarrhea on admission (C diff = bleach!)
Droplet precautions (reasons)
Influenza (FLU), Pertussis, Bacterial Meningitis
Airborne (negative air) precautions (reasons)
TB (Tuberculosis), Varicella (Chicken pox), measles (rubeola), disseminated shingles

- assist patients to chair or gurney
- place clean linens over patient
- use disinfectant wipes, clean wheel chair or gurney you touched
