Why was the ISO 9000 family developed?
The ISO 9000 family was developed to help organizations of any type (profit-making organizations, non-profit organizations, manufacturing companies, service providers,…) and size (microenterprises small and medium-sized enterprises and large enterprises) to implement a quality management system.
What is the quality management system?
The quality management system is the part of an organization’s management system which is geared towards achieving quality objectives. Furthermore, the quality management system is designed to help meeting the requirements of interested parties.
What are quality objectives?
The quality objectives supplement the organization ́s other objectives, for example, those relating to growth financing profitability environment occupational health and safety
Other words for quality management system?
In other words, the quality management system is a sub-system of an organization’s overall management system. The adoption of a quality management system should be a strategic decision for an organization.
What influences the design of the quality management system?
For example: Organizational environment; Customer requirements; Objectives of the organization; Company culture; Products provided; Size of the organization; Thus, there is no need to uniformity in the structure and alignment of documentation for quality management systems!

Specifies requirements for a quality management system. Forms the basis for certification of a quality management system.
ISO 9004
Managing for the sustained success of an organization – A quality management approach;
Provides the management of an organization with guidance on how sustained success can be achieved in a complex, challenging and constantly changing the environment by using a quality management approach.
ISO 19011
Guidelines for auditing management systems;
Provides guidance on auditing.
What is ISO 9000?
The ISO 9000 specifies the fundamentals of quality management system and defines the relevant quality management terms.
An organization that focuses on quality is fostering a culture that creates values by (sustainably) meeting the requirements of customers and other interested parties.
Why should an organization focus on quality?
On the one hand, quality of products and services includes fulfilling the intended functionality and performance and on the other hand, also its values and benefits as perceived by the customer.
The organization shall establish a quality management system in order to be able to achieve the intended results.
An important base for the quality management system is formed by the quality management system principles. They are needed to manage and operate a quality management system.
What are the seven principles of ISO 9000?
customer focus; leadership; engagement of people; process approach; improvement; evidence-based decision making; relationship management.
