Is matter around as pure 2 short Flashcards
What is a mixture ?
A mixture is a substance which consists of two or more elements or compounds not chemically combined together.
What is a homogenous mixture ?
Those mixtures, in which the substances are completely mixed together and are indistinguishable from one another are called homogeneous mixtures.
What is a Heterogenous mixture ?
Those mixtures in which the substances remain separate and one substance is spread throughout the other substance as small particles, droplets or bubbles are called heterogeneous mixtures.
What is a solution ?
A solution is a homogeneous mixture of two
or more substances. A solution has a solvent and a solute as its components.
What is a solvent ?
The component of the solution that dissolves the other component in it (usually the component greater in volume) is called the solvent.
What is a solute ?
The substance which is dissolved in a liquid to make a solution is called solute.
What is a saturated solution ?
When no more solute can be dissolved in a solution at a given temperature, it is called a saturated solution
What is solubility ?
The amount of the solute present in the saturated solution at a given temperature is called its solubility
What is a unsaturated solution ?
If the amount of solute contained in a solution is less than the saturation level, it is called an unsaturated solution.
