- Abdominal pain
- Fluctuating between constipation and diarrhoea
- Bloating
- Worse after eating, better after opening bowels

What are the main differentials in suspected IBS?
A
- IBD
- Coeliac disease
- Malignancy (depending on patient age/risk factors)

Describe the conservative and medical management of IBS
A
Conservative:
- Regular small meals
- Low “FODMAP” diet guided by dietician
- Limit caffeine and alcohol
Medical:
- Loperamide for diarrhoea
- Laxatives for constipation
- Hyoscine butylbromide (Buscopan) for abdo pain
