most accurate test for iron deficiency
ferritin 30 ng/ml (92% sens)
greater than 100 ng/ml exclude iron deficiency
kids at risk for iron deficiency
low birth weight
premature
lead
exclusive breast feeding beyond 4 months
weaning to whole milk and food w/o iron
anemia in pregnancy
hem levels below 11 g/dl in first or third trimester
length of iron treatment before follow up
