Investigations= Salt Water Flashcards
What is an scientific method?
Scientific method is a procedure used to provide scientific explanations for questions about the world. (test an hypothesis by conducting an experiment and finding out reliable theories and explanations)
What are the 6 steps of the Scientific method?
- Question
- Background information
- Hypothesis
- conduct experiment
- Analyze data
- Draw to a conclusion
What is an aim?
What are you trying to find out?
What is an hypothesis?
What is your predictions?
Independent Variable
What are you changing?
Dependent Variable
What are you measuring? Always include units
controlled variable
things you are keeping it the same. To ensure that your experiment is a fair test.
What is a good conclusion must have.
when one variable increase the other variable… inc/dec
What is the the x axis
independent variable
What is in the y axis
Dependent variable
How to draw a good line of best fit?
= determine the direction of the slope
= draw the line in the middle of the points, so that there are equal n.o of points on both sides of the line. dots are on equal distance.
What is a reliability?
How close repeated measurements are to each other. Other scientists must be able to perform the same investigation using the same method and generate the same results.
What is accuracy?
how close the final results is to the correct/accepted value. The closer it is the more accurate it is.
Anomalous
An outlier that does not fit with the other data points
How to improve reliability?
Do lots of trials and then average it to find a good value that is accurate and reliable.
