Investigating Clarity (2 of 2) Flashcards
What’s the difference between a Category List Table and a ZC Table?
There is no difference. Both names are referring to the same thing.
(Aug. 2021, 3.14)
Where can you go to easily identify the correct category list table (ZC_ table)?
Look for header Category Lookup in the Columns section of the Summary tab in the Clarity Dictionary.
(Aug. 2021, 3.15)
Where can you access the Clarity Dictionary if you don’t have access to Hyperspace?
The Clarity Dictionary can be found on the UserWeb through the Data Handbook.
(Aug. 2021, 3.15)
If you don’t have access to Hyperspace, where would you go to identify category list tables?

What are the two main tools used in the Clarity ETL process?
- Clarity Compass
• Maps Chronicles items to Clarity tables and columns.
• Stores table definitions - Clarity Console
• Schedules the extract of defined tables from Chronicles to Clarity.
(Aug. 2021, 3.17)
What does the load frequency of a table determine?
The load frequency of a table determines how often the data in the table is extracted from Chronicles to Clarity.
(Aug. 2021, 3.17)
What is the most common load frequency?
INCREMENTAL. The INCREMENTAL load takes place nightly, so the data contained in most Clarity tables is updated every 24 hours.
(Aug. 2021, 3.17)
List three load frequencies.
- INCREMENTAL
- WEEKLY
- MONTHLY
(Aug. 2021, 3.17)
Why is it important to know the extract frequencies of the tables that you’re using?
Different tables can have different load frequencies meaning some tables can be more up-to-date than others.
(Aug. 2021, 3.18)
What type of join should you use if your joining two tables with different frequencies?
A left outer join may be needed to make sure the report returns the necessary data.
(Aug. 2021, 3.18)
Why is the Report Repository considered a resource for Clarity research?
The Report Repository contains reference information for Epic-released and custom-written reports.
It is also a useful resource to investigate Clarity tables used in a similar report request.
(Aug. 2021, 3.16)
What does it mean when a column is deprecated?
Data will no longer be extracted to it.
Aug. 2021, 3.19
What causes a table or column be deprecated?
A deprecated column is a result of an Epic software update. Old items are retired and replaced with new items that behave more efficiently or in a more desired manner.
(Aug. 2021, 3.19)
Does a deprecated table or column continue to exist in the Clarity database?
Yes. No new data will be extracted to it but it will still exist in the Clarity database.
(Aug. 2021, 3.19)
What are two ways the Clarity Compass identifies deprecated columns?
- By adding a Deprecated chip to the column Name
- It is stated in the column Description
