Invertebrates and Vertebrates Flashcards
what are the characteristics of an echinoderm
hard skin/ spines radial symmetry ( like starfishes)
what are the characteristics of an arthropods
jointed legs
what are the characteristics of an insect (!related to arthropods!)
they usually have 6 legs, antennae, and 3 body sets (like wasps)
what are the characteristics of an arachnid (!Related to arthropods!)
they have 2 body sets, with 8 legs and fangs
what are the characteristics of an Crustaceans (!Related to arthropods!)
about 10-14 legs, with pincers and a plated body (think of crabs)
what are the characteristics of an myriapods (!Related to arthropods!)
there are two types the centipede and the millipede
the Millipede had 2 legs per body
and the centipede has 4 legs per body
what are the characteristics of an cnidarian
they have stinging cells and soft bodied as they are made of different cells (jellyfish)
what are the characteristics of an annelids
Basically worms with 3 different types the:
flatworms
roundworms, soft muscular bodies as their digestive system runs through the entire body
and the segmentedworms
what are the characteristics of an sponge
they have soft bodies, they are made by colony of cells. And they do not move, they are fixed in position.
Mammals
hair/fur, they give birth to live young, breathe through lungs, they produce milk, warm blooded animals, and are tetrapods
birds
they lay eggs with shell, warm blooded, they breath through their lungs and have feathers, plus hollow bones
Amphibians
cold blooded, they reproduce in the water but live on land. absorb oxygen through their skins, lay eggs without shells, and their young undergo metamorphosis
reptiles
they are cold blooded animals, they lay eggs with shells, and have scales.
what are the characteristics of a molluscs
they have soft muscular bodies, and serrated tongues (an ex is octopus.)
