cells and DNA Flashcards
Recall the human cell that contains 23 pairs of Chromosomes
23 pairs for the total of 46.
what does Variation mean
the difference between the member of the same species
what dose continuous or discontinuous mean
continuous means can have any numerical value and discontinuous are fixed values
what is genetic and environmental variation
genetic variation is controlled by your DNA and only your DNA ex. your eye colour, sex, inherited diseases, and blood type
environmental variation is controlled by the environment and your DNA like; your hair colour, skin colour, hight, weigh, ect ect…
what are bases
bases are what genes are made of there are A, C, T, G and they are arranging in different order to make the genetic makeup.
what are alleles
their the different types of certain genes.
what are genes
their the things that determines the certain characteristics of an organism.
what are chromosomes
their what carries the DNA and their 23 pairs of chromosomes in very normal human cell
what is Asexual and sexual reproduction and how does it work
asexual reproduction is when the chromosomes duplicates its self and separates
sexual is when you take away half of the chromosomes from both parents (there are 6) and make a baby.
How do Asexual and sexual reproduction affect variation
Asexual reproduction has no variation because it produces identical offspring
Sexual reproduction has variation because it produces genetically different offspring.
what dose homozygous mean
you inherited two of the same alleles (homo=same)
what does heterozygous mean
your two alleles are different from each other (hetero= different)
what is genotype
genotype is the alleles you have in your genes
what is phenotype
it is what you can see on a persons characteristic ex. eye colour
what is dominate and recessive
dominate is the allele that will dominate the recessive,
but if you have two recessives your phenotype will be the recessive. But if you have both you will have the dominate phenotype
dominate (capital letter) recessive (lowercase)
