Evolution Flashcards
what is an invertebrate?
A organism that dos not have a spine/back
what is a vertebrate?
A organism that has a spine/ skeleton.
label the typical parts of a leaf and relate to how the features help them survive.
1 Epidermis and 2 cuticle: prevent water loss through the top of the leaf, and protects it against disease.
3 the palisade cells: perform photosynthesis and has a lot of chloroplast
4 spongy mesaphlly and 5 air gap: allow diffusion of CO2 to palisade cells
6 pores 7 stomata: open and close to allow air in and closes during the night to pervent water loss
what are some adaptations that plants have developed to survive habitat stresses like; water, reproduction, light, predation, wind, and nutrients
water: they grow wider and longer roots
light: the shape and size of the leaf
wind: they have smaller stems and have longer roots
predation: thick skin, poison, and spikes
nutrients: carnivorous plants, and some seedlings stay on the mother plant to stay safe and take nutrients
Reproduction: bright colours, some have flowers and produce nectar, and smell
what is a typical experiment that can be used to identify the preferred habitat of small animals
an example is the maggot experiment where we see if the maggots prefer the dark or the light.
name 6 the classes of invertebrates
poriferans (sponges), cnidarians (such as sea jellies and corals), echinoderms (such as sea urchins and sea stars), mollusks (such as octopuses, snails, and clams), annelids (worms), and arthropods (such as insects, spiders, and lobsters).
name the classes of vertebrates
Bird, fish, mammal, amphibians, and reptiles
