Invertebrates and Vertebrates Flashcards
Asymmetry
Body has no symmetry.
Bilateral symmetry
Body can be divided into right and left halves that are nearly identical to each other.
Ectotherm
A vertebrate animal whose internal temperature changes when the temperature of its environment changes
Endoskeleton
An internal supportive framework of bone and/or cartilage that provides a place for muscle attachment and protects an animal’s internal organs.
Endotherm
A vertebrate animal with a nearly constant internal temperature.
Exoskeleton
A thick, hard outer covering that protects and supports arthropod bodies and provides places for muscles to attach.
Invertebrate
An animal without a backbone.
Radial symmetry
Body is arranged in a circle around a central point, like spokes of a bicycle wheel.
Vertebrate
An animal with a backbone.
