Invertebrates #14 Flashcards
What are the major differences between protostome and deuterostome development?
The digestive tube is different in the protostome is butt first & the deuterostome is mouth first
What are the 5 groups of invertebrates?
Sponges
CNIDARIANS
LOPHOTROCHOZOANS
ECDYSOZOANS
ECHINODERMATA
the major features of sponges?
No true tissue, earliest diverging animals, sessile, Marnie, sequential hermaphroditic
What are the major features of CNIDARIANS?
Gastrovascular cavity, sessile & motile, radially symmetrical, reproduces sexually & asexually, diploblastic, marine
What are the major features of lophotrochozoans?
18 phyla, bilateral body plan, large & diverse group, feeding structure some develop, classified genetically
What are the major features of ecdysozoans?
Exoskeleton, nematodes & arthropods
What are the major features of echindomeramta?
5 clades, bilateral symmetry, deuterostome development, sessile, water vascular system
What is the difference between metazoan and eumetazom?
eumetazoan is animals with true tissue & metazoan is animals w/o true tissues
Characterstics of sponges?
Choanocytes, sessile, sequential hermaphroditic, filter feeders
What type of body plan is sessile?
Doesn’t move (ex: coral)
What type of body plan is cnidarian?
Polyp (sessile) & medusa (motile)
What are the 3 major characteristics of bilaterians (animals)?
Triplobastic, body cavity, 2 openings (mouth & butt)
How are lophotrochozoans classified?
Free-living & parasitic, mostly marine
What are the 4 groups of molluscs?
Chitors
gastropods
bivalves
Cephalopods
What are the groups of ecdysozoans?
Nematodes & arthropods
