Q

Why could he have been easily stopped?

A

The troops he sent in were weak and could have been beaten fairly easily by a show of strength from either France or Britain. Hitler also told his men to retreat if there was any sign of defense, but there was not.

Q

Why didn’t anyone act against Hitler?

A

The French were between governments and were unwilling to act without the British. However the British Establishment (many of whom quite liked Hitler at the time) did not want to act over a weekend. Moreover both countries were preoccupied with Mussolini and Abyssinia.
