- all had different perspectives so had to prove themselves
- really new and different for the time they were created

Structuralists
A
Entirely moulded by society and we have no free will to act in any other way than how we are controlled
- society determines our choices, experiences and opportunities
- we act interact and react = top down approach
- deterministic theory
- study society as a whole
- macro (big) approach = how it’s all working

- we shape society through our actions, interactions
- we have free will and choices = our actions are voluntary, not forced and independent
- voluntaristic approach
- study society on a micro scale
- bottom up approach = how we react, interact with each other on a small scale and how that shapes social institutions and then how they shape society as a whole
