What does an RME not cover?

What are the four types of RMEs?
Preplacement Examination (PE)
Reexamination (RE)
Situational Examination (SE)
Termination Examination (TE)
Who can conduct RMEs?
Physicians, NPs, or PAs who have undergone BUMED approved Radiation Training.
If an NP or PA conducts an RME, what else does it need?
A signature from a physician reviewer
What does the physician signature require?
Printed name or stamp, signature, date of review and a pertinent qualification I.e UMO, RAM or RHI.
Can reviewing physician also be the examiner?
Yes, as long as they have completed an BUMED approved rad health training (RHI)
What are the 3 components of an RME?
Medical history
Special studies
Physical Examination
What is included in a medical history of an RME?
*Personal hx of cancer
*Hx of accidental or occupational exposure to ionizing radiation above table 1 limits
* Hx of Anemia or hematuria
* Hx of Cancer Therapy
*Hx of Radiation Therapy
*Hx of work handling unsealed sources
*Hx of Radio-pharmaceuticals received for therapeutic purposes
*Any significant illness or changes since last RME that might be related to cancer
What special studies are associated with an RME?
White blood Count (WBC)
Hematocrit (HCT)
Microscopic high power UA
What is no longer required for a special study?
Clinical dipstick UA
What time frame must an WBC, HCT and a microscopic UA be conducted prior to the physical exam of an RME?
3 months
What is a made up of an physical exam for an RME?
Thyroid
Breast ( if female over 40)
Testes
Skin
