introduction to radiologic technology and thaleht care Flashcards
process of acquiring an image through the means of exposing radiation (x-ray)
radiography
most commonly known as the x-ray film
radiograph
is the finished product form radiography
radiography
unfinished film is called ___
latent image
anything that occupies space and has a shape or form
matter
ability to do work
energy
energy transmitted through space
radiation
em energy
electromagnetic energy
removal of an electron from an atom
ionization
ejecting electron
ionization
radiation capable of only exciting parts of an atom
non-ionizing radiation
excitation of atoms
non-ionizing radiation
forms of radiation used
x-ray, soundwaves, radiofrequency waves, gamma rays
common radiation foudn what
sunlight - visible light; ultraviolet
cellular and entwork signals - microwave
how x ray happened (history)
x-rays were not developed but rather it was discovered by accident
who discovered x-rays
wilhelm conrad roentgen
how was x ray discovered
roentgen was experimenting with a type of crookes tube on November 8,1895 at wurzburg university in germany
when was x ray disocvered
novemeber 8, 1895
where was x-ray discovered
wurzburg university in germany
WHAT WERE THE MATERIALS INVOLVED?
Cathode Rays, Crookes Tube, Barium Platinocyanide
NAMING OF THE RADIATION
Initially called X-light, X means unknown
x meaning in xray
unknown
Injuries occuring due to
receiving a certain dose of
radiation.
Radiation Injury
Radiation Protection
Time, Shielding, Distance
most effective readiation protection
distance
ALARA
➢ Keeping radiation “As low as
reasonably achievable.”
Removes low energy radiation.
Radiation Filtration
Restricts useful radiation beams
to specific parts
Radiation Collimation
common radiation usage
medical field; everyday use; scientfic stsudeis
Roentgen darkened his lab and completely enclosed
his Crookes tube with black photographic paper to
better visualize the Cathode Rays in the tube. During
the experiment, a barium platinocyanide was lying
on a bench meters away from the crookes tube.
After the experiment, no visible light escaped but
the barium platinocyanide glowed.
