Introduction to Process Dynamics & Closed Loop Systems Flashcards
Arrangement of different components such as measuring devices, control valves,
controllers, and computers that are connected
Control system
The equipment observed or controlled where physical or
chemical reactions occur (heat exchangers, chemical reactors, tanks, pumps, etc.)
Process
Measures the output of the variable
Sensors/Measuring Instrument
Used to carry the signal from sensors to controllers
Transmission lines
Brain of the control system which includes the comparator. It decides how much to change the value of the manipulated variable by comparing it to a set variable
Controllers
The equipment used to affect the input variable to affect the output variable
Actuator
Goals of process control
safety
production schedule
product quality
maximum profit
Industrial Perspective of process control
avoid accidents
exploit opportunities
brand image, loyalty, and competition
survival and development
reading measurements and turning on valves, knobs, or dials and so on to act affect the MV. So that it reaches that
desires set point (SP) fast enough
Manual control
Is an arrangement of all the elements of a control system connected and functioning together to achieve the
desired control of the process
Close loop system
Other term for close loop system
Control system
Feedback system
Feedback control system
It is a control system wherein the difference between the TR and TM is used as the definition for the error.
Negative Feedback
It is a control system wherein the sum of the TR and TM is used as the definition for the
error.
Positive Feedback
It is a control problem wherein the set point for the process is changed.
Servomechanism or Servo Problem
It is a control problem wherein the input to the process is disturbed.
Regulatory or Load change
