Introduction to Organic Chemistry 09A Flashcards
addition reaction process
an unsaturated functional group(c=c) react with another substance to form a single product.
elimination reaction process
an ALKENE IS FORMED by the removal of a H2O molecule from an alcohol or a molecule of HX from a halogenoalkane.
substitution reaction process
one atom or a group of atoms are substituted by another. there were always at least two products.
condensation reaction process
two molecules react together to form a BIGGER molecule, with the elimination of a smaller molecule such as water or HCl
hydrolysis reaction process
a molecule is split into 2 by water, with dilute acids and alkalis as a catalyst
oxidation reaction process
oxygen is added or hydrogen is removed from a molecule
[O] is used to show oxidisation
reduction reaction process
oxygen is removed or hydrogen is added tp the molecule.
