Q

How have families change from a pre modernity to a post modern society

A

> In pre modernity - the main family type was the Extended family, it was common to see all members contribute with work, this including children.
In a post modern society - The main family type is the Nuclear family, children no longer contribute to work as they are now dependent. Family types are now more divers in gender and ethnicity.

Q

Why have families change

A

> Decline in infant mortality rate - this means smaller families (no longer need to keep re-producing)
Increase in immigration - this means that the family types and patterns of other cultures are brought into the UK
Increase in urbanisation - this means that migrating to cities for work, is much easier with a smaller family rather than an extended one
Compulsory education and child labour - children are no longer expected to work, they have become more dependent, as well as an economic liability
